The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet

 

After the opening in 2008, Oslo Opera House soon became a landmark. Designed by the Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta, the spectacular building houses The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet. With three stages and state-of-the-art equipment the building makes possible a broad repertoire, a variety of performances and productions. As the first opera house in the world to let visitors walk on the roof, Oslo Opera House also has become a major tourist attraction.

 

• The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet is Norway's largest performing arts institution.
• It was founded in 1957 and gave its opening performance in 1959.

• The organisation has over 600 employees working in about 50 professions and trades.

• Senior management consists of General Director (CEO) Tom Remlov, Opera Director Paul Curran, Ballet Director Espen Giljane and Music Director John Fiore.

Cost € 500 millions and took five years to build
Ground first broken on 17 February 2003
Opened with a gala performance on 12 April 2008
Gross area: 49,000 m2 in about 1,100 rooms
Has three performance spaces for opera, ballet and concerts:

• Main House: 1,369 seats (depending on the size of the orchestra pit)

• Second House: 400 seats (depending on stage design)

• The Studio: 200 seats
In addition, the foyer and the roof are also used for concerts.
