Education and Outreach
As the first opera house in the world where you can walk on the roof, we pride ourselves on our openness. In that spirit, the Education department aims to enable as many people as possible to use and benefit from The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet's resources – offering guided tours of the building, pre-performance talks, and the chance to take part in music, song, dance or design workshops.
The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet (DNO&B) is particularly keen to introduce children and young people to its wide range of activities. Working with schools and families is therefore a priority – as are our projects with students in Further and Higher Education. The Norwegian Government's "The Cultural Rucksack" is a very important partner in both in-house and outreach programmes for primary school and secondary school, enabling us to provide learning opportunities for many more pupils than would otherwise be the case, regardless of their financial or cultural background.
DNO&B Education has 6 full time members of staff who work across all of our art forms. Many other DNO&B artists and staff get involved in our education programmes in the course of their work. We also have a large team of freelance staff, currently counting some 15 persons.
Within one season we offer over 3000 guided tours for more than 60,000 people of all ages and from every corner of the world. Other various educational programmes amount to nearly 200 events a year and reach approximately 10,000 people in total.
