Singers from the WOYS talent programme bring Christmas traditions
The five new singers of The Wilhelmsen Opera Studio for Young Singers (WOYS) bring Christmas music from their home countries to Trinity Church.
The singers invite you to a festive concert featuring music and Christmas traditions from around the world.
More than 650 singers from across the globe applied to join the Opera’s WOYS talent programme, and just five were selected. For this concert, they share personal Christmas favourites from Norway, New Zealand, the USA, Austria and Slovenia, alongside traditional Christmas songs.
Performing are American soprano Erin O’Rourke, Slovenian soprano Katarina Zorec, New Zealand mezzo-soprano Cecilia Zhang, Norwegian tenor Ian Marcus Bjørvik and Austrian baritone David Höfel, with Michael Sherman at the piano.
The WOYS talent programme
The Wilhelmsen Opera Studio for Young Singers allows talented young singers to develop their skills as they embark on their professional careers. Every two years, the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet selects four to six singers to work closely with directors, conductors and established artists at the Opera House. The programme offers valuable stage experience and provides a springboard for an international career.
