Oslo in my heart
Oslo Jazz Festival is proud to present The Source: of Oslo as this year’s opening concert at the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet on Sunday, 9 August.
To mark Oslo Jazz Festival’s 40th anniversary, we invite you to a grand tribute to the city and music metropolis of Oslo with The Source, celebrating the capital’s many voices on stage at the Opera House.
Oslo has inspired and generated an enormous amount of music, capturing everyday life and celebration, the beautiful and the harsh, the city in all its contrasts. Today, Oslo is also home to musicians from around the world.
The Source has explored the material, selected their Oslo favourites, and arranged the music in their unmistakable style. As always, the band also brings a number of guest artists to the stage.
The legendary ensemble The Source has, over the past three decades, become a jazz institution in Norway, known for its mix of virtuosity and energy. The quartet – saxophonist Trygve Seim, trombonist Øyvind Brække, bassist Mats Eilertsen and drummer Per Oddvar Johansen – marked the 30th anniversary of The Source: of Christmas at Cosmopolite in 2025 with a marathon weekend of concerts to standing ovations.
The Source: of Oslo was originally set to open Oslo Jazz Festival in 2020, but the project was paused when the country shut down. With the festival’s 40th anniversary, the production has been revived, and audiences finally get the chance to experience this large-scale celebration on the Opera’s main stage.
Welcome to a truly unique opening concert!
