Access Becomes Art
Wednesday 12 November 2025 marks the return of World Ballet Day, a global celebration of dance. Building on over a decade of innovation, this year’s theme focuses on accessibility – inviting artists and audiences to experience ballet in transformative new ways.
The Norwegian National Ballet is proud to take part in this year’s global celebration of dance as a welcoming space for everyone.
Extracts from Láhppon/Lost
Our contribution features two filmed extracts from Láhppon/Lost, choreographed by Elle Sofe Sara and Hlín Hjálmarsdóttir — a powerful main-stage work portraying the Kautokeino Rebellion of 1852, a dark chapter in Sámi and Norwegian history.
Both videos include sign language and audio description. Here on our feed you’ll find versions in British Sign Language, and on operaen.no versions in Norwegian Sign Language.
Thanks to Supervisuell for sign language interpretation and MediaLT for subtitles and audio description.
A worldwide digital celebration
Ballet companies worldwide will stream and share content from their individual platforms. Other companies besides the Norwegian National Ballet include The Australian Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, Northern Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet and San Francisco Ballet.
A heartfelt thank you to The Royal Ballet for leading this celebration!
Join the celebration and watch behind-the-scenes footage, rehearsals, and newly-commissioned works live via www.worldballetday.com.
