Frida Lund-Larsen

The Norwegian contralto Frida Lund-Larsen is a graduate from the Young Artist Ensemble at The Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen. She has her education from The Royal Danish Opera Academy, with Susanna Eken, Marianne Rørholm and Anne Margrethe Dahl, Hochsüle für Musik und Teater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig with Prof. Carola Guber, and The Norwegian Academy of Music with Mona Julsrud.

Frida made her stage debut at The Royal Danish Opera as Siegrune in the acclaimed production of Die Walküre by former opera chef John Fulljames, conducted by Thomas Søndergård. In the season of  2023/2024, she sang the role of Third Lady in Barrie Kosky's production of Die Zauberflöte with conductors Eivind Gullberg Jensen, Nick Fletcher and Hendrik Vestmann and Dryade in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos with Giedre Šlekyte. During the 2022/2023 season of the theatre, she portrayed the role of Fekluscha, in Janaceck’s Katja Kabanova with conductors Michael Boder and Nick Fletcher, 1. Magd in Strauss’ Elektra, conducted by Thomas Søndergård and took part of the Royal Summer Opera Concert Tour around in Denmark.

Furthermore, she has covered the roles of Auntie in Britten’s Peter Grimes and Olga in Laurent Pellys production of Tchaikovsky’s Eugen Onegin, conducted by Marie Jacquot.

During her studies at the Opera Academy, Frida has portrayed roles such as Yelena Popova (The Bear), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Isabella (L'Italiana in Algeri) as well as the title role in The Rape of Lucretia, directed by Noa Naamat, to mention a few.

Frida’s warm contralto timbre embraces a great variety of musical styles, and she is becoming a sought after singer in works like Bach's Christmas Oratorio, St. John's Passion and Händel's Messiah. As an oratorio soloist, she has performed with ensembles such as Nivalis Barokk as well as with the Norwegian Baroque Ensmble (Barokkanerne) multiple times. She won 1st prize in the Nina Grieg International Solo Competition in 2018 and is since 2019 a member of The Norwegian Soloist Choir.
