Chamber concert:
Rhythms and
Daydreams
From Dance to Dream
Rhythmic energy, French elegance and Argentine tango come together as musicians from the Opera Orchestra explore how twentieth-century composers drew inspiration from music history and created something entirely new.
Old Paths, New Directions
The programme moves between dance and reflection, between folk music, Baroque forms and modern soundscapes. In the music of Erwin Schulhoff, the driving force of dance takes centre stage, while Claude Debussy’s sonata unfolds in a free and sensual musical language. What these works share is the way they allow familiar forms and musical ideas to reappear in new guises.
Sound in Motion
The unusual combination of flute, viola, harp and double bass creates a rich and varied sonic landscape. Sounds intertwine, contrasts emerge, and the individual instruments are given space to step forward both on their own and in ensemble.
In the second half of the concert, audiences will hear tango and the music of Astor Piazzolla, before the programme concludes with the French elegance and playfulness of Jacques Ibert and Jean Françaix.
