String Quartet
Unlike Any Other String Quartet
Schubert meets Nordic intensity when the Danish String Quartet visits the Opera.
Electrifying performers take the stage at the Opera
“Blond, bespectacled and bearded. The Danish String Quartet is not quite like other string quartets,” music critic Maren Ørstavik once wrote about the ensemble in Aftenposten. Now this electrifying quartet comes to the Opera with Schubert, alongside their own arrangements of Nordic folk music — a hallmark that has earned them international acclaim.
… a meeting between a rowdy folk music culture and the refined classical tradition

A Danish chamber‑music powerhouse
The quartet consists of Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen and Frederik Øland on violin, Asbjørn Nørgaard on viola, and Fredrik Sjölin on cello. They have played together since their teenage years and have developed a distinctive artistic voice that combines technical brilliance, a repertoire ranging from core classical works to playful reinterpretations, and an exceptional ability to connect with audiences.
Their precision and warm stage presence are key reasons why Denmark is frequently described as a chamber‑music powerhouse — whether they are performing canonical masterpieces or their own original arrangements.
The ensemble has received widespread international recognition for its recordings. Most recently, the Danish String Quartet became the first ensemble ever to be awarded the prestigious Léonie Sonnings Music Prize.
The concert is presented in collaboration with the Oslo Quartet Series.
