Jo Strømgren kompani:
The Cello
Norwegian premiere with Bach as backdrop
Nordic identity is explored through a kaleidoscope of feelings and memories when the Jo Strømgren Kompani returns with a fresh new dance performance.
Dance to Bach’s cello suites
Expect poetic passages, associative images and interaction between bodies and more during the performance of The Cello. The purpose? To give logic to movements and visual dramaturgy, similar to listening to classical music.
During the performance, the dancing is as abstract as the music, which originates from Bach’s cello suites and is linked to text fragments about situations in the performers’ native language.
It all comes together as a chamber work, inspired by the intimate theatrical stage. As always with Jo Strømgren, the narrative is packed with both emotions and irony, with imagination and pointed wit – and with his unmistakable Nordic choreographic signature.
- The Cello is a co-production between Jo Strømgren Kompani and the Silesian-Moravian National Ballet. A first version premiered in Ostrava in May 2023.
