A musical winter landscape
Folk music, improvisation and newly composed jazz come together as Ragnhild Hemsing VETRA returns to the Main Stage.
A bridge between traditions
Ragnhild Hemsing is known for her rare ability to move effortlessly between musical worlds. Both classically trained as a violinist and deeply rooted in folk music, she creates an expression that feels timeless and forward-looking at the same time.
Her artistic project Ragnhild Hemsing VETRA is a distinctive folk jazz ensemble, operating in the borderlands between tradition, improvisation and newly composed music. Here, the raw melodic force of folk music is fused with the open and exploratory character of jazz.
New sounds of a Norwegian winter
VETRA builds on Hemsing’s album of the same name and draws on Norwegian folk music and nature – with a particular connection to Valdres. The name comes from the Valdres dialect and means winter or season, pointing to the project’s clear link to nature and the cycle of time.
Together with some of Norway’s leading jazz musicians – Mathias Eick, Steinar Raknes and Terje Isungset – Hemsing creates a rich and lyrical soundscape, inviting the audience on a musical journey through sound, nature and identity.
