Norwegian National Ballet's Summer Course 2024

We have the pleasure of inviting you to the Norwegian National Ballet's Summer Course 2024.

The Norwegian National Ballet's summer course is a week of intensive training in the Opera's beautiful premises. The course is a collaboration between the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, the Ballet School at DNO&B and the Norwegian National Ballet, and is generously supported by our sponsors – Sparebankstiftelsen, Norsk Tipping and Tom Wilhelmsen's Foundation. 

Information about the course

The course is aimed at classical ballet students and is suitable for dancers from 11 to 19 years of all nationalities and will take place 24.–29.06.24 at the Oslo Opera House.

The pupils will receive instruction in classical ballet, modern ballet, variations/repertoire, basic training as well as lectures with dancers, educators and health personnel from the Norwegian National Ballet.

The summer course is a unique opportunity for ballet talents from ballet schools and cultural schools across the country to train together with students from the Ballet School at DNO&B, Wilhelmsen Academy, Oslo National Academy of the Arts and dancers from the Norwegian National Ballet 2.

A typical day will include lessons from

09.30–15.30 for the youngest pupils and
09.30–17.00 for the oldest students

The week rounds off with a small show on Saturday afternoon at the Opera's Stage 2 for friends and family.

The course costs NOK 2500 and includes tuition, lunch and fruit every day.

Travel/Accommodation

Students must cover the costs of accommodation and travel during the summer course. We can help with accommodation suggestions near the Opera House.

The closing date for applications is: 29.02.2024

Please include a link to video material (alternatively with a password) of the student either dancing a rehearsed classical solo or parts of center work from a classical class (with a short pointe shoe exercise for applicants from the age of 14)

Students who apply will be evaluated by a jury selection. Places are allocated according to skill level and applicants will receive a response from us by 18.03.

Ballet teachers

It is recommended that teachers accompany their students on the course. Registration for teachers: Application form for educators

In addition to observing classes, teachers accompanying their students on the course will participate in lectures and discussion forums on classical ballet teaching, with special attention on health and injury prevention.

There is no cost for teachers who follow their students.
