Karl Hanseth started in the role of Technical Director in the autumn of 2013. He is responsible for the technical production of all the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet’s performances and concerts – including the creation of all scenography, costumes and technical stage solutions. Hanseth manages the technical departments and workshops, which consist of over 230 employees within 25 different disciplines – everything from costume makers, painters, carpenters and decorators to make-up artists, milliners, dressers, wig makers and a range of other specialist disciplines and professions. The technical departments are also responsible for one of Europe’s most advanced venues.

Karl Hanseth started his career as an apprentice at SAS in 1983. Here, he worked his way up through the ranks from Flight Mechanic to Technical Director, before accepting the position of Technical Director at Riksteatret in 2008, where he played a central role in the introduction of a new production and project management model. He has also previously led a range of large projects. Hanseth has management training from the Norwegian Armed Forces and BI Norwegian Business School.
