Richard Suttie

Richard Suttie was born in England. He studied at the Norwegian National Ballet School and Royal Ballet School in London. Richard Suttie joined the Norwegian National Ballet in 1990 and became a soloist in 1992. He received the Esso Prize in 1991 and the Dancer Of The Year sponsor prize in 2006. In 1999 he received the Critics' Award for his work in Grand-Maitre's Exilium, and in 2005 he received the Åse Bye Honorary Award.

With the Norwegian National Ballet Richard Suttie has danced the title roles in Cranko's Onegin, Gable og Pink's Dracula and Lubovitch's Othello, Basilio in Nureyev's Don Quixote, Orion in Szegedy's Sylvia, Oberon* in Sund's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Prospero in Tetley's The Tempest, the Prince in Stevenson's Cinderella, the Prince in Bjørn's The Nutcracker, Carabosse in Mats Ek's Sleeping Beauty, Albrecht in Gable and Pink's Giselle, Prince Siegfried in Holmes' Swan Lake, Valmont* in Grand-Maitre's Dangerous Liaisons, Petruccio in Cranko's The Taming of the Shrew, Prince Florimund in Petipa's Sleeping Beauty, and Romeo and Tybalt in Corder's Romeo and Juliet*. He also danced the part of Romeo in the Norwegian National Ballet's guest performance in London.  Richard Suttie has also danced the title role in Balanchine's Apollo, Death in van Dantzig's Four Last Songs, Geppetto in Fagerholt's Pinocchio*, the soldier in Tetley's La Ronde, Nilas in Cullberg's Moon Reindeer and Jean in Cullberg's Miss Julie.

He has danced prominent solo parts in Balanchine's Symphony in C, Agon, Symphony in Three Movements and The Four Temperaments, Wheeldon's Polyphonia and The Christening Suite*, Tetley's Arena, Voluntaries and Amores, Martin's Fearful Symmetries, Duato's Por Vos Muero and White Darkness, Kylián's Forgotten Land, Whereabouts Unknown, Heart‘s Labyrinth and Wings of Wax, Forsythe's Workwithinwork, Lightfoot and León's Sh-Boom, Step Lightly, Softly as I Leave You and Subject to Change, Welch's Maninyas, Lee's Fractured Wake, Elo's Cut to Drive and Brake-Green, and Andersen's Holberg Suite*.
