Magical pre-Christmas dream 

Clara is at a Christmas party, but is bored and feeling left out. She falls asleep and the party suddenly becomes an enchanting adventure!  

In her dream, the guests are transformed into rats and mice – and the nutcracker into a real prince. In an overgrown and slightly spooky universe, the prince and Clara fight against the animals. Even the gifts from the foreign guests come to life and begin to dance – under the control of the mystical doll maker Drosselmeyer. 

An adventure you will never want to end.

Fairytale in Christiania 

Every year, The Nutcracker is danced in ballet houses across much of the world. The story is based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story ‘The Nutcracker and the Mouse King’ and in our production from 2016, the story is set in Christiania in 1905. 

The Norwegian National Ballet dancers share the stage with students of the Norwegian National Ballet School, all of whom interpret a multitude of roles, from the prince, young and older Clara to rats and waffles with cream. 

And when the curtain rises to the tunes of Tchaikovsky, there is someone in the audience who is seeing the ballet for the very first time.
